Terms of Service
Effective date: July 9, 2026
These are the terms for Watch It With Me (“WIWM”, “we”, “us”, “our”) — the service at watchitwithme.app that helps you find people to watch movies with. By visiting the site, joining the lobby, or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, don't use the service.
We've written these in plain English on purpose. They're still a real agreement. Questions go to hello@watchitwithme.app.
1) What Watch It With Me is — and isn't
WIWM matches you with other people to watch a movie at the same time. We give you a lobby, rooms, a synchronised countdown and clock, and chat. That's the service.
- We never stream, host, or transmit the film. Playback happens on your own streaming service, on your own account, under that service's terms. We sync and we chat — nothing else.
- You need your own access to a title to watch it. Provider names, logos, and links in the app are informational only; we don't control those services and can't guarantee a title is available in your region or on your plan.
- Movie titles, posters, artwork, and metadata belong to their respective owners. Showing them in the app is not a claim of affiliation or endorsement.
2) You must be 18 or older
WIWM puts you in rooms and chats with strangers. Because of that, the service is for adults only. By using WIWM you affirm that you are 18 years of age or older.
If you are under 18, you may not use the service — with or without permission from a parent or guardian. If we become aware that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.
3) Your account
- You can use WIWM as a guest (we create a lightweight guest profile for you) or with a claimed account (email and password). Both are covered by these terms.
- One person per account. Don't share your account, and don't use someone else's. You're responsible for what happens on yours, so keep your password to yourself.
- Usernames and display names must not impersonate other people, contain slurs or abusive language, or mislead others about who you are. We maintain a username blocklist and may rename or reclaim a name that breaks these rules.
- We may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts as described in section 7, and we may reclaim inactive guest identities as part of operating the service.
4) Paid plans and billing
Some features are paid: the Plus subscription (monthly or annual) and the one-time Tonight Pass. Current prices and what each unlocks are shown on the pricing page and at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number.
- Plus renews automatically (monthly or yearly, whichever you chose) until you cancel. Cancel any time through the billing screen in your account, which opens the Stripe customer portal. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Plus until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- Tonight Pass is a one-time purchase that unlocks its features for the stated window. It isn't a subscription and doesn't renew.
- Payments are generally non-refundable. If something went genuinely wrong — you were charged in error, or the service was broken when you paid — email us and we'll look at it like humans.
- Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other consumer protection law that applies to you and can't be contracted out of. Where such a law gives you a remedy (including a refund), that law wins over this section.
- We may change prices or what plans include. Price changes to an existing subscription take effect from your next renewal, and we'll tell you before that happens.
5) Your content
Chat messages, reactions, GIFs you pick, ratings, and short takes you post are yours. By posting them you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and distribute that content within the service, as needed to operate its features. We don't use your content for advertising, and we don't sell it.
- Some of your content is visible to others by design: messages and reactions appear to the room or lobby, and after you watch and rate a title, your display name, rating, and any take you post can appear on that title's public wall inside the app. The privacy policy describes exactly what other users can see.
- You're responsible for what you post. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
- We may remove content that breaks these terms or the community guidelines, and we may retain moderation records as described in the privacy policy.
6) What's not allowed
The short version lives in the community guidelines. The binding list is here. Don't:
- harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate other users;
- post hate speech or attack people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or similar characteristics;
- direct sexual content or advances at other users;
- share other people's personal information, or fish for it;
- impersonate any person, or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone;
- post content that is illegal or promotes illegal activity;
- spam, flood, or disrupt chats, lobbies, or rooms;
- circumvent blocks, restrictions, or bans — including by creating new accounts to get around them;
- use bots, scripts, or automation to access the service, scrape it, or fake activity; or
- probe, overload, or interfere with the service, or attempt to access data or accounts that aren't yours.
7) Reports, blocks, and enforcement
We enforce these terms with tools that actually exist in the product, not vague promises:
- Reports. You can report a user from any chat row or from the help screen. Reports capture the surrounding chat context so a human can see what actually happened. A human reviews reports.
- Blocks. Blocking someone means the two of you will never be placed in a room together again, and you stop seeing each other in the app. The blocked person is not told.
- Automatic restrictions. When reports or blocks from enough distinct users cross a threshold, an account may be automatically and temporarily restricted (for example, limited chat) while a human reviews it.
- Manual moderation. We may warn, restrict, suspend, or ban accounts that break these terms, remove content, and end rooms — with severity matched to the behaviour. For serious harm we may act immediately and without notice.
- Appeals. If your account is restricted or banned and you think we got it wrong, use the moderation support channel shown on your account screen or email hello@watchitwithme.app. A human reads those too.
8) Third-party services
The app connects to services we don't control: your streaming providers, Stripe for payments, GIPHY for GIFs (served with a content-rating ceiling), and movie metadata providers. Their terms and privacy policies apply when you use them. We aren't responsible for their availability, accuracy, or behaviour.
9) Our stuff
The WIWM name, logo, design, software, and content we created are ours. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the service as intended by these terms. Don't copy, resell, or build competing services out of it. Movie titles, artwork, and metadata remain the property of their owners (see section 1).
10) The service is early
WIWM is young software, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties — express or implied — about uptime, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- Features may change, break, or be removed as the product evolves.
- We can't promise there will be someone to match with, that a room will fill, or that another user will behave well.
- We may suspend or shut down some or all of the service — for maintenance, safety, or because the product changes direction.
11) Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss; for the conduct of other users, online or off; or for third-party services, including your streaming providers. Our total liability to you for all claims connected to the service is capped at the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and AUD $50.
As with billing: nothing here excludes, restricts, or modifies consumer guarantees or other rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that applies to you and can't be contracted out of.
12) Ending things
- You can stop using WIWM at any time. To delete your account and data, email hello@watchitwithme.app (the privacy policy covers what deletion means).
- We can suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, as described in section 7.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including your content licence for content already shared with others, liability, and governing law — do.
13) Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product grows. We'll post the new version here and update the Effective date above; for material changes we'll also flag it in the app or by email. Using the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
14) Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts. If you use WIWM from another country, local laws that apply to you as a consumer and can't be contracted out of still apply — these terms never take those away.
