This Privacy Policy explains how Watch It With Me (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit our website, join our waitlist, use the closed alpha, create an account, join lobbies or rooms, use social features, or buy a paid plan or pass.

1) What we collect

Depending on how you use Watch It With Me, we may collect:

  • Waitlist and marketing information, such as your email address, confirmation status, unsubscribe status, email opens or clicks where supported, and referral or campaign details.
  • Account and alpha access information, such as invite-code redemption, guest session identifiers, display name, username, email address, authentication status, account creation time, and plan or access status.
  • Profile and taste information, such as favourite genres, favourite movies, region preference, and other choices you save to improve discovery and matching.
  • Lobby, room, and social activity, such as titles you queue, room type preferences, presence state, room membership, chat messages, reactions, ready state, pause or resume requests, GIF searches or selections, and provider-link interactions.
  • Safety and moderation information, such as reports, blocks, support requests, moderation notes, restriction state, and incident snapshots needed to review abuse, spam, harassment, or other safety issues.
  • Payment and billing information, such as plan type, subscription status, billing account identifiers, purchase outcome, renewal or cancellation state, and Stripe customer or subscription references. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Technical, analytics, and security information, such as IP address, device and browser information, timestamps, pages viewed, product events, error and performance logs, cookies or local storage, and anti-abuse signals.

2) How we collect information

We collect information when you:

  • enter your email address, create an account, redeem an invite code, or log in;
  • choose genres, favourite movies, a region, a room type, or a title to watch;
  • send chat messages, reactions, reports, blocks, or moderation support requests;
  • enable push notifications or interact with emails we send you;
  • buy, manage, cancel, or redeem paid access; and
  • use the website or app, which may generate technical logs and analytics events.

3) Why we collect and use your information

We use your information to:

  • operate the waitlist, closed alpha, accounts, lobbies, rooms, chat, and matching;
  • show live demand, queue activity, presence, and room state to other users;
  • personalise discovery, recommendations, room matching, and WIWM picks;
  • process paid plans, passes, account upgrades, and billing support;
  • send product updates, account messages, push notifications, and service notices;
  • measure performance, fix bugs, understand usage, and improve the product;
  • prevent spam, fraud, abuse, evasion, and unsafe behaviour; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms or community guidelines.

4) What other users can see

Watch It With Me is a social app, so some information is visible to other people in the lobby or room:

  • your display name or guest identity;
  • whether you are present, queued, eyeing a title, in a room, ready, or reacting;
  • titles you queue or rooms you join; and
  • messages, reactions, GIFs, and other content you send in lobby or room surfaces.

Your email address, billing details, password, reports, blocks, and moderation support requests are not shown publicly. Reports and moderation records may be reviewed by authorised moderators or administrators.

5) Marketing, consent, and unsubscribing

By joining the waitlist or signing up for updates, you consent to receiving product, launch, and early-access emails from us. You can unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

We may still send non-marketing messages, such as account, billing, security, legal, or important service notices.

6) Service providers

We use service providers to host the app, store data, send emails, process payments, provide analytics, support real-time app features, send push notifications, and power movie, provider, or GIF features. These providers may process information on our behalf or under their own privacy terms when you interact with their services.

We may also use movie metadata, streaming availability, watch provider, search, or infrastructure services as needed to operate discovery and watch-link features.

7) Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

  • with service providers that help us operate, secure, analyse, or improve WIWM;
  • with payment processors when you buy or manage paid access;
  • with other users only as part of normal social app features described above;
  • with moderators or administrators for safety, abuse prevention, and support;
  • where required or permitted by law; or
  • as part of a business transfer, merger, acquisition, or similar transaction.

8) Cookies, storage, and push

We use cookies, local storage, session storage, and similar technologies for essential app operation, login/session continuity, invite access, preferences, analytics, attribution, performance, security, and anti-abuse. If you enable push notifications, we store a push subscription so we can send relevant room, match, or rejoin notifications. You can manage browser notifications through your browser or device settings.

9) Overseas disclosures

Our service providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States or other countries where their infrastructure, staff, or subprocessors are located. This means your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.

10) Data retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, operate accounts and rooms, maintain safety, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve the product.

  • Waitlist and marketing records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, unless we need a limited record for compliance.
  • Account, billing, preference, room, and safety records may be kept while your account or alpha access is active and for a reasonable period afterward.
  • Reports, blocks, moderation actions, and incident snapshots may be retained where needed for safety, abuse prevention, appeals, or legal reasons.
  • Analytics, logs, and anti-abuse records may be retained in identifiable, pseudonymous, aggregated, or de-identified form depending on their purpose.

11) Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

12) Your rights and choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you by contacting hello@watchitwithme.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request.

If you are in Australia and are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

13) Children

Watch It With Me is not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

14) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the Effective date above.
